Stuck CD in CD player

I placed a home burned CD into the player a couple of days ago; the player accepted it okay. However, after a few seconds the display showed "disc error" (or something like that) and then closed down altogether. It hasn't worked since. If I press the "Menu" button the display shows the clock (showing the wrong time!)for a few seconds and then goes dead again. The disc doesn't spin inside the player at any time during this procedure, and the radio doesn't operate either. The machine appears utterly deceased. Anybody know any method to get the CD out, please? (I don't care about the CD itself - I have another copy in the house.) Many thanks - hope you can help....
